Caroline Wedding Update: Colors and a Dress!

Okay, so I have posted in the past that I chose my colors -- pink and burgundy. It is one thing to pick colors... it is another thing to match them to colors offered by bridal salons! And colors look different online than in person -- beware! I was having trouble finding the exact shades of pink and burgundy that I liked. I then floated in between pinks and purples, finding myself hovering over a deep lapis purple for a while, which I did truly like. But there are less options when it comes to purple flowers and I love pink flowers -- it was a conundrum.

I decided to put that aside and shop for my own dress. I went to a very nice bridal salon (which will remain unnamed) and found so many dresses that I loved. And let me tell you -- not everyone has a "Eureka!" moment. I didn't. With every new dress I would try on, I'd think of how it could shape the theme of the wedding. Do I want something classy and ultra-formal for a nighttime wedding, or something a bit aery-er and light, perfect for a garden wedding? It was a tough choice, but I ended up going with an organza dress and a cathedral veil (longer than I am tall!) so it's perfect for a garden wedding, but it still has the high drama for a nighttime wedding. Plus, its not your typical dress. It's a piece of art and nothing ordinary. You will not see someone in a dress like this again. It's perfect.

Anyways, I am going to get my bridesmaid dresses from the same store I am getting my dress from. Because I kept thinking the pink bridesmaid dresses I was finding were too dark or too "bubblegum-y" (for lack of a better word), I decided to look away from pink. Burgundy, on the other hand, was too drab and dark for summer. That's when it hit me that I needed something that was neither of these colors.

That's how I came to pewter. Yep, gray. What is more boring and drab than gray, right? BUT with a black four tulle rose sash that ties in a bow in the back - the dresses are the epitome of elegance and are very dramatic, and will be against the garden scene with pink and burgundy flowers. I fell in love. The one thing I told myself I wanted to avoid when getting married this young was having a very youthful bright wedding. I want something mature and extremely elegant, and very formal. Not something playful. Something dramatic with flair. I think I have found that!

Since my dress has some elements of flower petals and/or feathers (depends on how you look at it) I think I am going to play up on the soft, romantic, yet rustic garden look... and have maybe some bird motifs and/or antique bird cages to hold flowers, cards, and candles.

Pink pink pink and...?

So it turns out my wedding colors are more of a deep pink and a light pink. That's a lot of pink. However, through the flowers and decorations, I can add another color element. Possibly a peach and fuschia sorbet component to the flowers? A cool blue touch to the table linens? Or simply some sweet gold accents? Decisions, decisions...

The debate: White or Colorful Bride bouquet?

The white is very pristine and has a certain charm to it... but the color pops against a white dress.

EIGHT. 8. e-i-g-h-t.

Yep - that's right, I have 8 bridesmaids (I can't help it that I'm popular... kidding! hah). I really find a strong connection with the number 8 (January 8th was when Jon and I started dating) so I want it to show up as much as possible. But with eight bridesmaids, there comes a lot of personalities, body types, and well... monotony. That's why I have decided to go with the "same color, different style" approach for my bridesmaids dresses. The only thing I am concerned about is 5 people picking the same dress, like the first 5 I have in the order in my mind... but I might rearrange depending on styles chosen. I just don't want to be bridezilla!

The top picture shows some of the available styles for Watermelon. I'm considering allowing bridesmaids to choose from 3 or 4 different styles. If I got rid of any of the ones above it would be the halter -- it didn't get the best reviews. Also above is a picture of girls wearing Guava -- I can't decide if I think watermelon is too dark//too close to burgundy. I'll have to see it in person first. I made a virtual wedding party though with both colors for fun--see below!

Finally declaring a color scheme??

So I think it's semi-official that Jon and I are going to go with Pink and Burgundy as our colors. Jon isn't the biggest fan of burgundy (he doesn't like that it was one of our high school colors -- whatever boy!). Plus it was our prom 06 colors so it's quote unquote "already been done." Haha, obviously I like those colors! Anyways, All that he has asked to have a say in is the tie he wears -- so he can be pink for all I care! Also, I would use lime green as a fun accent color. Very minor though - just a punch of contrast in the bouquets I think, maybe a splash on the invitations.

PURPLE! and... peach?

Peach Rose

Peach Ranunculus

Peach Dahlia

I'm pretty sure I want my bridesmaids to be in royal purple! More like the top three bridesmaid pictures (esp the first one!)... although Jon and I have been considering a peach and purple pairing (maybe with a hint of pink! mostly just with flowers & ribbons/accent items), however I don't quite like it in the last picture. Maybe it's just that the Bride's bouquet is kind of off-color and doesn't fit. But I did check, they do have my three favorite flowers in peach! I am going to ponder this matching for a while and see if I end up hating it. If I don't, maybe we have a winner... who'da thought it'd be so sweet and girly?! Part of me is still holding out for something dramatic and retro...

Getting closer to finally picking a color scheme!

This picture really stuck with me - I love the mix of fig (ribbon color), candy pink, and peach. But then again I kind of want an old school/great gatsby-esque essence to my wedding - and I don't really feel that from these colors. Sigh, back to the drawing board...
